EVENING VISIT TO FERRYBRIDGE AQUATICS - APRIL 2011 Text and photographs
by David Marshall On the evening of Monday 11th April members of Ryedale
Aquarist Society travelled to Ferrybridge Aquatics. Our thanks go to the
Lawton family, who made us so welcome and who contributed more than their fair
share of food to a lovely 'pot luck supper'.

For
readers who are not familiar with Ferrybridge Aquatics every nook and cranny houses
an aquarium. Here you will find a vast array of tropical freshwater fish that
vary from tiny Guppies to large Silver Dollars; from commonly seen Tiger barbs
to rare Chiloglanis catfish and cichlids galore, which all compliment one of the
best selections of Corydoradinae in Northern England. The tropical marine section
is more compact but houses high quality fish and invertebrates. Coldwater fish
are restricted to three very deep aquariums and on our visit we had the surprise
of finding Garra hughi offered for sale. As our photographs shows all types
of cichlids are available at Ferrybridge Aquatics

An excellent array of aquatic
accessories and aquarium fish foods are also offered for sale at competitive prices.

We
had a wonderful evening and as our photographs show the members had a real job
choosing which fish species to bring home.

Once again we thank the
Lawton family for their hospitality and thank Richard, Frank, Goy and Ian for
providing the transport that enabled us all to attend. Finally, our photograph
of a member of the Silver Dollar family reminds me that you always need to take
plenty of pennies with you to Ferrybridge Aquatics, as you will always find something
of aquatic interest to purchase.
